HEAL, RENEW, CREATE
Welcome. I believe we can each create powerful and lasting change in our lives, sometimes we just need a little support. I have learned along my own journey that it is better to invite companions to join along the way for support and at times to ask for directions. I seek to create a space for you to explore, inquire within, heal, renew and create your personal freedom.
"Between stimulus and response there is space. In that space is our power to choose our response.
In our response lies our growth and our freedom". -Victor Frankl
A BIT ABOUT ME
I have practiced for over 10 years both in private practice and in community mental health and substance abuse clinics. My eclectic experience has fostered a unique ability to connect with clients of diverse backgrounds and with a broad range of life challenges and transitions. I obtained my Masters of Education (MEd) in Counseling from Stephens College and Training from UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in California and a Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor.
My Approach to Therapy
My approach to psychotherapy is grounded in a unified approach to the
There are three broad classes of therapeutic tasks, which I refer to as Awareness, Acceptance, and Change. Awareness refers to bringing into explicit consciousness feelings, frames, or pieces that were hidden and narrating them with the client in a
way that clarifies and resonates. Learning to accept situations, one’s thought and
feelings, and others, and doing so with compassion and grace is one of the great principles of healthy, adaptive living. The function of psychotherapy is to effectively
move individuals toward their goals of less suffering, improved functioning, and greater overall fulfillment. As such, I think in terms of the work I do in psychotherapy with my clients as a project we embark on together.
SERVICES I OFFER
MINDFULNESS FOR DAILY LIVING
Join Brenda as we gather in community each week to engage in the experiential journey of cultivating mindfulness in our daily lives. We will sit together in meditation, share in rich discussion exploring formal and informal practices drawing from science, psychology and spiritual traditions as we identify practical applications for our own lives. Here are a few scientifically-validated benefits of mindfulness practices:
Increases immune function, positive emotion, social connection and emotional intelligence, focus and attention.
Decreases pain, inflammation at a cellular level, anxiety and stress.
Improves our ability to regulate emotions as well as our ability to be creative and “think outside the box.”
Brenda is a trained facilitator in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapies with the University of California San Diego Center for Mindfulness and is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.
